DIY Membrane Keypad Repair
For KX-TGA400b and
KX-TGA200b What is a membrane
keypad?
Membrane keypad permanently blocks the oil secreted from
the rubber pad Two Options:
1) Number pad only: 1 through 9, *0# (number keys)
2) Full membrane keypad - repairs all the buttons
The keypad was not designed correctly for
the KX-TGA400b and KX-TGA200b phone. The keypad circuit
board was designed to use 6mm diameter conductive contacts
but the rubber keypad only has 4mm contacts. To make matters
worse, the rubber pad itself uses large rubber buttons that
ooze a sticky oil by-product. This oil causes early button
failure. With the combination of small contacts and oil ooze
the buttons typically start to have problems within just a
few months in heavily used phones.
There is now a properly designed
replacement rubber keypad that has the correct 6mm contacts.
You can find them by following this link: Improved KX-TGA400b Rubber Keypad
Before the new rubber keypad was
available the only option for repairing the keypad was to
purchase another poorly designed -doomed to fail-
keypad from Panasonic or to install a membrane keypad. The
membrane keypad does not increase the contact size
(because the original keypad contacts are what push the
flexible membrane down) but they do block the oil that
oozes from the rubber pad.
